Hay Production

Producing our own top quality Orchard Grass, Teff Grass, Orchard Grass/Alfalfa mix, and Alfalfa Hay is one of our main enterprises. While we are using some to feed our own livestock, we sell over half our yearly output to customers from the Columbia Basin and across the Pacific Northwest. All bales are small 2-twine bales weighing between 75 and 100 lbs each depending on type of hay and conditions during production. There is typically some cuttings of hay that we get inspected and certified “Weed-Free” by the USDA for use in National Forests or for customers that want the extra peace of mind knowing that a third party has deemed it weed free. While we are not currently reserving hay ahead of time, please contact us for current inventory and avialabilty.

Pasture/Forage Production

Growing our summer pastures and forage for our livestock goes hand in hand with our hay production. Rotating water between fields throughout the year is done by all types of irrigation: Flood, Handline, Wheeline, and Center Pivots. Using rotational grazing we are able to move cattle from pasture to pasture, giving each field a break before the cattle return to start the rotation over again. The use of fall planted cover crops like Triticale allows us to start this grazing rotation earlier in the spring and boost our forage production beyond what is avialable in the pastures by early spring. Pastures are a diverse mixtutre of grasses, clovers, and native species to our area.
